Vegetarian House Vegan in San Jose is a full-service vegan restaurant that leans heavily into Asian fusion with touches of Vietnamese and other Southeast Asian influences. Located on East Santa Clara Street, it serves a local crowd looking for plant-based dining with a flavorful and diverse menu carefully crafted to appeal to both dedicated vegans and curious omnivores alike.

The atmosphere here is roomy and bustling, especially on weekends when the dining room opens, contrasting with quieter weekday takeout service. The restaurant manages to stay busy with steady foot traffic, reflecting its popularity among families and groups who appreciate its large seating capacity and convenient parking lot with about 20 spots—something you don’t always find in the area.

The menu showcases a variety of thoughtfully prepared dishes such as the raw Spicy Thai Wrap, Quinoa Sushi, Eggplant Bliss, and Spicy Mambo, mixing light and hearty options that suit different tastes and hunger levels. Specialties like the Queens Joy and Kung Pao Tofu get frequent praise for robust flavors without the heaviness sometimes associated with vegan dishes. While desserts tend to be hit-or-miss among regulars, savory items like potstickers, spring roll noodles, and Malaysian Chow Mein Curry highlight the kitchen’s skill at balancing spice, texture, and freshness.

Vegetarian House Vegan works well for casual family lunches, group dinners, or even catering parties—several local customers have noted how the catering service delivers well-presented and clearly labeled dishes that still arrive hot and satisfying. It’s a spot where vegans can find familiar comfort with creative twists, and where non-vegetarians often find the dishes substantial enough to enjoy without feeling they’re missing out.

For those stopping by, weekday takeout is the norm, but plan for a more traditional sit-down experience during weekends when the dining room is open and the place hums with activity. The vibe is comfortable and down-to-earth, making it a practical choice for anyone looking for nutritious and intriguing plant-based meals in the South Bay area.

We used the catering service for a party of 30 guests. The food was absolutely delicious. The presentation (it arrived hot and each dish was clearly labeled) was perfect, and the delivery process was so friendly and generous and helpful! All of our guests were delighted and asked about the restaurant. It is worth noting that many guests were not vegan or even vegetarian, but still found the food memorably satisfying. Wonderful, just perfect!

Honestly the best vegan restaurant in South Bay serving a mix of Asian-based foods and also Western-based foods. Best dishes are the Eggplant Sizzle and Stroganoff, but you really can't go wrong with any of the dishes with all dishes VERY reasonably priced. Note that it's takeout during weekdays and the dining room is open during weekends. They do have a nice parking lot with ~20 spots The food is flavorful and comes out quickly. They're very accommodating of allergies and can remove ingredients most times and showcase which allergies are in the food. The staff are friendly and quite attentive, although you do grab your own tableware from a communal table.

!!!Please Read!!! !!UPDATE 12/11/25!! Look I won't leave a vegan place less than 5 stars because we need them all... but I will tell the truth. I ordered the stroganoff and when you picture something and describe it in a way that it does not come out it's not cool. The stroganoff is pictured with this CREAMY WHITE sauce, and described as such, and it came out brown and extremely runny. Like water runny. Taste is pretty bad too. The bread was good!... but it's hard to mess that up. Would not have ordered this and paid $25 (got the extras and tax) if it reflected the truth. I didn't even end up eating any. My buddy, who's not vegan, enjoyed his very much however. He got the joyful tofu. Just don't order the stroganoff... you will be dissatisfied. Outside dining only except on weekends. The owners are friendly. UPDATE: So my coworker has been dreaming of that Joyful Tofu, he really liked it because he's hard to please, and wanted to go back next time we were in town. They have such a large menu, so I wasn't opposed to giving them another try especially when I kinda blame myself for ordering Stroganoff from a heavy Asian menu which is obviously their forte. So this time I got the Spring roll noodle dish....and my GAWD!!! One of the best things I've eaten!! So they definitely redeemed themselves and then some!! It was phenomenal! Thank you so much! My belly is full and extremely happy! Updated the review to reflect this amazing experience!

We went here for Mother’s Day lunch! Even though it looks crowded we didn’t have to wait for long, it’s a big place. It seems very popular people kept coming in constantly. We had mango salad, mushroom kebab, pot stickers, and for main course pineapple fried rice and spicy mambo, everything was great, tasted amazing. We also had vegan desert, they have couple of options, we ordered strawberry cloud cake. It was delicious! Really enjoyed the vibe and food here, we will be back

As a regular omnivore, the vegan options at this restaurant did not make me miss meat. On the contrary, some of the items, if I was not told what they were, I would have not guessed they were vegan. I actually did not enjoy the desserts so I can't recommend them, but my favorite dishes that we tried were the Queens Joy, Spicy chacha (not actually that spicy), the crispy mushrooms and the caulipower. I would gladly go back for any of those dishes. The mango salad was also nice. Everything in general was yummy so you can't really go wrong. The staff were very friendly and nice to us, even though we were a big group. I didn't get to take pictures of some of the dishes because our group ate them so fast.

Great food, very decent portions, friendly accommodating staff. I eat here when I am exhausted and my body needs healthy protein and nutrients to recover. And bonus of getting to support a small business :)
